Billing
Insurance, CDCP and paying for care
You should know what a visit will cost you before it happens. Here is how billing works here, and what to do if you have no coverage.
Private and employer insurance
We direct-bill most major carriers, so in most cases you pay only the portion your plan does not cover. Bring your benefits card to your first visit and we will take it from there.

- Manulife
- Green Shield Canada
- Canada Life
- Desjardins
- Blue Cross
- Equitable Life
- Empire Life
Not on the list? Call us with your carrier and plan number and we will check before you book.
Ask for a predetermination
For anything beyond a routine visit, we can send your treatment plan to your insurer first and get back a written statement of what they will pay. It takes a couple of weeks and it removes the guesswork. Ask us for one — we do not charge for it.
The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)
The CDCP is a federal plan for Canadian residents who have no private dental coverage and whose adjusted family net income is under $90,000. We accept patients covered by it. Once Service Canada confirms your eligibility, Sun Life administers the plan and sends you a member card — bring it with you.
| Adjusted family net income | CDCP pays | Your share |
|---|---|---|
| Under $70,000 | 100% | No co-payment |
| $70,000 to $79,999 | 60% | 40% co-payment |
| $80,000 to $89,999 | 40% | 60% co-payment |
| $90,000 and over | Not eligible | — |
Two things worth knowing before you book
- The CDCP pays against its own fee schedule, which is lower than the Ontario Dental Association guide most clinics use. Where there is a gap, that difference is yours to pay on top of any co-payment. We will tell you the amount in writing before we start.
- The plan does not cover everything, and some treatments need to be approved in advance. We will check first rather than let you find out afterwards.
Eligibility, income tiers and covered services are set by the federal government and can change. Confirm your own situation at canada.ca — we can tell you how the plan applies here, but we do not decide who qualifies.
No coverage at all?
Come in anyway and let us look. We work from the Ontario Dental Association fee guide, we give you a written estimate before anything is booked, and we can spread larger treatment over instalments so it is not one bill. If something can safely wait, we will tell you that too.
Other public programs
Ontario also runs Healthy Smiles Ontario for children and youth 17 and under in eligible households, and the Ontario Seniors Dental Care Program for lower-income residents 65 and over. Ask us and we will point you to the right application.
Not sure what you are covered for?
Ask the chat bubble, or call us with your card in hand — it usually takes about two minutes to find out.
The dentists at Windsor Family Dental are registered with the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario as general practitioners, not as specialists. Treatment that calls for a specialist is referred out.
